With personal encouragement from Cardinal Raniero Cantalamessa, and a 'special' programme blessing many, ADoRE 's monthly Zoom meetings are going from strength to strength. As they approach their 50th anniversary in 2025, leader Alastair Emblem shares their Spirit-filled journey below-and invites newcomers to join him on the journey.
As ADoRE (Alton Day of Renewal) looks back over the last year – and indeed the last forty-nine years – we are first of all overcome with joyful thanks to the Lord for all the amazing blessings He has poured out on us.
Through the inspiration and power of the Holy Spirit, we have kept going with our monthly days of renewal since our foundation back in 1975, and we are now preparing to celebrate 50 years of service with an exciting programme for 2025.
One of the unexpected benefits of lockdown back in 2020 was that we discovered a new way of fulfilling Jesus’ command to take the Good News “to the ends of the earth,” through the medium of Zoom. In addition to participants from across the UK, we have visitors from across the globe, from the USA to New Zealand.
Although face-to-face meetings are preferable in many ways, we have been delighted that so many people find our 3-hour sessions on a Saturday morning to be such a welcome boost to their spiritual wellbeing. A typical comment is: “This group is so special. I am so grateful to be part of it - folk with such deep, committed faith.”
Listening to uplifting talks from inspiring speakers like Charles Whitehead, Gary Stephens, Jenny Baker and Ros Powell has been so helpful this year, especially to those who can’t get to live conferences. And those who have no charismatic activity in their area find it a great blessing to be able to participate in live-streamed Mass, celebrated by priests alive in the Holy Spirit, followed by eucharistic adoration, prophetic sharing, praise and worship and a testimony before the Talk.
Next year we celebrate our Golden Jubilee with a programme that fits with the Universal Church’s Jubilee: “PILGRIMS OF HOPE - Pathway to the Holy Spirit.” The over-riding message will be moving forward in our journey through life with expectant hope in the providence of God; a firm trust in the victory of Christ; and joy in the blessings and gifts of the Holy Spirit for revitalising the Church. Once again, we have a range of leading speakers to inspire and encourage all who join the meetings.
We are blessed to have received the following greeting from Cardinal Raniero Cantalamessa: “First of all I want to congratulate you for your 50 years of faithfulness to the Holy Spirit and the current of grace of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal… I will pray for the Risen Lord to pour down his Spirit in a new powerful way upon the speakers and the participants to the program. I remind you of the word of God on Hope and the Holy Spirit, which, I am sure, will often resound in your meetings. Take it, please, as my personal prayer and blessing for you: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13) Your brother in Christ and in His Holy Spirit, Fr. Raniero Cardinal Cantalamessa, ofmcap
